The Best Dive Sites in Hurghada — A Local Guide
From wreck dives to coral-lined drop-offs, here's where divers visiting Hurghada should head — with depth, certification, and seasonal notes.
Hurghada sits on Egypt's Red Sea coast, and the diving on its doorstep is some of the most varied in the world. Below is a starting list of dive sites we send first-timers to first.
Abu Nuhas
A graveyard of merchant ships at the northern entrance to the Strait of Gubal, Abu Nuhas is famous for the Giannis D, Carnatic, Chrisoula K, and Kimon M. Each wreck sits between 24m and 30m, making this a destination for advanced divers.
Carless Reef
A submerged reef plateau with two coral pinnacles, currents that bring in big fish, and reliable visibility above 25m. Suited to AOWD and above.
Small Giftun
A drift dive along a shallower wall — open to Open Water Diver level. Bring a torch for the overhangs.
When to dive
The Red Sea is divable year-round. Late spring and early autumn give the best balance of warm water (~26 °C) and visibility, while summer dives can pass 30 °C surface.
