Behaviour

The shortfin devil ray feeds on plankton and possibly also small fish and squid, gathering food by swimming with its mouth open and straining particles from the water through its gill rakers. It is ovoviviparous and has the lowest reproductive rate of any elasmobranch, with a litter usually consisting of a single pup after a gestation of one to three years.
