Three Pools

Overview

Three Pools is one of Dahab's gentlest and prettiest shore dives, named for the trio of shallow, sandy-bottomed coral pools you cross at the start before slipping into a wider coral garden. South of town and dive-able by all levels, it is a relaxed, photo-friendly site that beginners and snorkellers love — and one experienced divers happily return to for an easy, scenic outing. Calm water, easy navigation and excellent visibility make it a dependable choice when you want beauty without the workout.

The Dive

After a straightforward shore entry, the dive opens with the three interconnected pools — natural coral-rimmed lagoons just 3–4m deep, lined up side by side over white sand — that you cross before the reef proper begins. From there a labyrinth of hard coral leads out and the reef slopes gently down into a coral garden, with most of the dive sitting in the comfortable 12–20m range and a sensible recreational floor around 20m. There is no need to go deep; the character of the site is in the shallow pools and the garden, so the plan is a slow, meandering loop through the coral and back.

Current is typically light and the topography is forgiving, which is what makes Three Pools such a strong training and confidence-building site. Like most Dahab shore dives it is best at high tide, when the entry is easiest and least exposed to surge.

Marine Life

The pools and coral garden are alive with classic Red Sea reef fish — butterflyfish, anthias, parrotfish and the ever-present clouds of glassfish. Blue-spotted stingrays rest on the sandy patches, lionfish drift along the coral edges, and the nooks of the hard-coral maze are good hunting for nudibranchs and other macro subjects. The shallow, bright setting and easygoing pace make it a lovely spot to slow down and look closely.

Good to Know

Dahab dives year-round, with water from roughly 21°C in winter to 28°C in summer; visibility here is often outstanding at 30–40m. Three Pools is best dived at high tide, when the entry is smoother and surge is minimal, and its calm, shallow profile makes it ideal for beginners, students, snorkellers and anyone after a gentle, scenic dive. It lies a short drive south of Dahab and slots easily into a day with the town's other southern shore sites.
