Pipefish

The network pipefish, also called the reticulate or yellow-banded pipefish, is a marine fish in the family Syngnathidae.

Habitat
Its range extends from the Red Sea and eastern Africa to the Tuamotu Islands, the Ryukyu Islands, northern Australia, and the Austral Islands. A tropical species, it is associated with lagoons and coral reefs from the low-tide line down to about 25 m.
Behaviour
This ovoviviparous pipefish is probably monogamous and is generally seen in pairs, with the male carrying the eggs in a pouch beneath his tail until they hatch after roughly 10 to 12 days. It feeds on small invertebrates, chiefly copepods but also small isopods and ostracods. In French Polynesia it is preyed upon by the grouper Epinephelus merra.
