Habitat
The starry moray is widespread across the Indo-Pacific, from the east coast of Africa and the Red Sea out to Polynesia and Hawaii, and from southern Japan to New Caledonia. It dwells on the outer slopes of coral reefs, sheltering in crevices between about 1.0 and 272.6 m (3.3 to 894 ft) deep, but is most often seen near 30 m (99 ft).
Behaviour
The starry moray is a solitary carnivore that emerges from its lair at night to hunt actively along the reef, feeding chiefly on fishes.
